I absolutly love Hummingbirds...
I live in Northern, Michigan and Hummingbirds
are very plentyful here...
I would like to share some of the things
I know about Hummingbirds...
A Ruby Throated Hummingbird weighs 3 grams,
or on tenth the weight of a first class letter.
Hummingbirds range in size from 2 1/4" to 8 1/2"
Their wings beat about 70 times a second.
There are about 338 species of Hummingbirds.
Females take care of the nest.
Males defend the territory.
Hummingbirds lay the smallest eggs of any bird.
Their eggs are less than half an inch long.
This is about the size of the finger nail,
on your small finger.
Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds fly nonstop across
the Gulf of Mexico during their migration.
A Hummingbird's heart beats at a rate of
1,260 to 2,000 beats per minute.
A resting Hummingbird takes 250 breaths per minute.
Hummingbirds have the largest known heart size of any bird.
Their heart is 2.4 percent of their body weight.
An average Hummingbird consumes one half its weight in
sugar,each day and feeds at a rate of 5 to 8 times per hour
Hummingbirds can live up to 12 years although
many live only 3 to 5 years......
Hummingbird Feed
4 cups water
One cup of sugar.
Boil the water,add
the sugar and boil
for 1 to 2 minutes.
Let Cool
Put excess in the
refrigerator.
